Community Service Projects

International service projects bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world.

The Rotary Club of Lower Blue Mountains achieve this through partnerships with other local and international Rotary clubs to address a real need that is sustainable and creates an impact on the community.

Some of our projects are listed below:-

Books In Homes

Lower Blue Mountains Rotary is a local sponsor of the national Books in Homes project. The Club works with three local primary schools to provide assistance to 30 children every year who would benefit from additional literacy support.

Three times each year the children choose from a selection of 48 sample books, those they would like as their very own.  New books and book bags, individually labelled with the child’s name are later presented . The sample books are donated in rotation to the school libraries,  benefiting all children at the schools

The 414 books provided annually by this “read to succeed” program provide a real boost for our local school children

Glenbrook Park Flag Precinct

Glenbrook Park Flag Precinct

Lower Blue Mountains Rotary was a key member of a community committee that worked with the Blue Mountains City Council to establish the precinct in 2000. Since then the Club has taken responsibility for flying appropriate flags recognising significant days and periods of community celebration and commemoration.

The area is floodlit, allowing the display of flags 24/7 and the Australian National Flag is flown most days. As a member of the Commonwealth Flag Network, national, state and local protocols are observed and the Club maintains a stock of other flags to fly as appropriate.

In 2019/2020, 34 days had events recognised with specific flag action. Clubs and Community Groups are welcome to make use of the precinct to fly flags that recognise their own significant days. Advice, assistance and loan of flagpole keys is available.

The precinct also contains a number of commemorative plaques recognising significant local events.
